Hayden Zillmer Biography

Hayden Zillmer was born on July 16, 1992, in Crosby, Minnesota, USA. Zillmer's father (Nick Zillmer) was a successful collegiate basketball player and a member of NDSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. A likeness for sports that young Hayden proved to have as well.

Starting wrestling early on in life Hayden caused an immediate impact as soon as he joined the Crosby-Ironton High School wrestling team by conquering three Minnesota state titles, the school's all-time wins record.

Prior to his high school state championship glory, Zillmer won the cadet national triple crown (2007) by winning USA's Wrestling National Championships in folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling. A tremendous achievement only accomplished by 7 wrestlers before him.

Even though tremendously hard-working throughout his early sporting career, Hayden is notorious for being a late bloomer when it comes to his physical maturity. In 2019 Zillmer told the Detroit Lake Tribune (DL) website: "In college, I was 138 pounds after our first workout (...) a month or two in, I was at 160 pounds". Zillmet's transformation continued well into his post-collegiate career where he reached the 216 lb weight category at 6'3".

Once he graduated from high school, Zillmer joined the North Dakota State University Bison wrestling team, running as a redshirt during his freshman year. Although a solid addition to NDSU in the collegiate circuit, Hayden spent much of his career there competing in the Grecco-Roman and freestyle rulesets.

Zillmer graduated from NDSU in 2016 wrestling 184 pounds his senior year. He finished with a 106-30 career record with NCAA All-American honors in 2015.

Hayden competed on all three (3) main wrestling rulesets for many years, but once his collegiate days were over, the Minnesotan was forced to rule out folkstyle. To continue progressing his career forward, Zillmer joined the Minnesota Storm wrestling club, achieving great success there also.
