Burroughs Beats Chamizo 9-2 in Kolov International Tournament

Burroughs Beats Chamizo 9-2 in Kolov International Tournament

In a battle of former world champions, Jordan Burroughs beat Frank Chamizo by a score of 9-2 in the second round of the Dan Kolov international tournament. This was the widest score of any of their four bouts, with Burroughs leading the series 3-1. The rivalry continues to be heated and friendly, between some of the best offense and defense in the game today at any weight.

Burroughs scored early and often with low level singles, having figured out how to work through Chamizo's usual quadpod and whizzer defenses. Chamizo managed to piece together some offense through stepouts and cautions, but had trouble finding time on the legs. The biggest difference maker came on a 4 point double that JB blasted through on Frank for a 7-2 lead. Burroughs spent much of the late moments of the bout clearing ties and keeping distance, but with a near-tech fall here a clear message has been sent to the field at 74 kilograms.

The Kolov is a ranking tournament this year for the UWW calendar. Burroughs is in the semifinals now, and if he wins there then Chamizo will be in the repechage wrestlebacks for bronze. This tournament offers significant seeding points for the world championships in September, so expect full efforts the whole week.
